William Joseph Harrison, Age 22

Private, 12069, 6th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

K.S.L.I Regiment Cap Badge.

William was the eldest son of William and Annie of 3 Hodgkiss Fold, Old Park.

His father had won the second highest award for bravery (The Distinguished Conduct Medal) during his army career and William was also recommended to be awarded the DCM after he had been wounded while rescuing other wounded comrades on the 16th September 1916 during the battle of the Somme.

Unfortunately, he was not awarded the medal that his bravery deserved and he died of wounds at a base hospital (No.3 Stationary Hospital, Rouen) on the 26 Sept 1916 William lies buried at St Sever Cemetery in Grave B.23.57
